Is salt healthy?
Meta-analysis of 13 studies says that high salt intake is associated with significantly increased risk of stroke and total cardiovascular disease. [1]
Another systematic review also shows that higher salt intake is associated with adverse health outcomes. [2]
Meta-analysis of 12 studies says that high salt intake is associated with significantly increased risk of stroke event. [3]
A systematic review of 32 studies showed that the risk of CVD with high sodium intake compared to low sodium intake increased significantly by 19%. [4]
How much sodium a day is healthy?
The recommended daily intake is up to 5 g of salt (sodium chloride) or 2.3 g of sodium. [5]
